Paint Your Own Pottery
Paint Your Own Pottery in Lampasas, Texas
The Cherry on Top is a family-friendly paint-your-own pottery studio and ice cream shop in historic downtown Lampasas, Texas. Choose a piece, pick your colors and paint at your own pace while we handle the glazing and kiln firing.

How pottery painting works
Start by choosing a piece from our shelves — mugs, bowls, plates, banks, figurines, seasonal shapes and more. Our shop team will get you set up at a table with brushes, stencils, sponges and every color we carry.
Paint at your own pace. When you are happy with your design, leave your piece with us. We clear-glaze it and fire it in one of our kilns, which brings out the true, glossy color.
- Choose it — pick the piece you want to paint
- Paint it — colors, brushes, stencils and supplies are all included
- Leave it with us — we glaze and kiln-fire every finished piece
- Pick it up — we call or text you as soon as it is ready
Do I need a reservation to paint pottery?
No. Walk-ins are welcome during regular shop hours, so you can stop in whenever the mood strikes. If your group has six or more painters, please contact the shop ahead of time so we can save space and set out enough supplies.
Planning a birthday or a private gathering? Those are booked in advance on our birthday parties and groups and private events pages.
What pricing includes
Pottery pieces begin at $18, and the marked price on the piece is the full price. Your paints, brushes, supplies, glazing and kiln firing are all included — there is no separate studio fee or per-person charge.
Prices vary by piece, and our selection changes throughout the year.
How long does pottery painting take?
Most guests spend somewhere between one and two hours painting, though there is no time limit and you are welcome to take as long as you like. Younger children often finish faster, and detailed painters happily stay longer. If you don't finish your project, you are welcome to take it home and bring it back another day to finish painting it in studio.
Glazing, kiln firing and when your pottery is ready
After you leave, your piece is dipped in a food-safe clear glaze and loaded into the kiln. Our kilns need a full load before they can be fired, so pieces are grouped together and fired as a batch.
Finished pottery is typically ready for pickup in 7–14 days, depending on shop volume and kiln scheduling. We will reach out when your piece is waiting for you.
Options for children and adults
Pottery painting works for just about every age. Little ones love simple shapes and bold colors, and our team is glad to suggest an approachable piece. Adults come in for date nights, girls' nights, quiet afternoons and creative time with friends.
No artistic experience is needed. If you are not sure where to start, just ask — helping people get started is one of our favorite parts of the day.
